Mercedes revealed the Estate variant of the
new generation of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. The new model will be on sale from and July keeps its features of comfort, despite offering less space than its predecessor. However the German brand has already announced that in the future it will be launching a seven-seat version of the model.
The
C-Class Estate served as the basis for the development of the new E-Class Estate design. Thus, the new E-Class station wagon has a less angular look and more fluid than the previous generation. From the front of the bonnet until the end of the front doors the design is shared with the sedan version, however the roof additionally receives aluminum bars. The new Estate design took the more boxy look of the previous generation thanks to a more sloping rear.
The interior of the new E-Class Estate is identical to the
E Class Sedan with an optional dual instruments panel and an infotainment system that dominate the dashboard. The new E-Class Estate generation load capacity has dropped 25 liters to 670 liters, a value that still remains higher than rivals such as the A6 Avant or the BMW 5 Series Touring. With the rear seats folded flat the load capacity increases to 1820 liters, 130 liters less than the previous generation.
At launch the E-Class Estate will be available with a range that comprises three engines, one diesel and two petrol. The 184hp E 200, 194hp E 220d and 211hp E 250 will take the first steps of the new generation. In the last quarter of 2016 the time will come for the arrival of the 150 E 200d and the E 350d with a six-cylinder diesel engine with 258hp. The E400 4MATIC will complete the range with a six-cylinder petrol engine with 333hp and 480Nm of torque. All versions will be marketed as standard with an automatic nine-speed 9G-Tronic transmission.
The first AMG version available with the new generation E-Class Estate will be the E 43 AMG 4Matic with 401hp coming from the 3.0-liter V6 biturbo engine combined with the 9G-Tronic gearbox. The E 43 AMG 4Matic Estate will be able to reach 100km/h in 4.7 seconds and a limited top speed of 250km/h. The announced average consumption is 8.4l/100km.
