confirmed, three months ahead, that it will unveil a new concept car at the Beijing Motor Show, which will taking place from 20 to 29 April. The French brand has revealed that it is a four-seater and will follow the same line of design of the OnyxPeugeot OnyxFrance, 2012 > 201225 photos
concept, indicating the DNA of future models from Peugeot.
The only image revealed so far shows a vehicle covered by a sheet, so you only get to see part of its lines. Peugeot revealed that the car is 4.73m long, 1.31m high and that it will be produced using the same "original materials" used in the conception of the Onyx . The prototype presented in the latest edition of the Geneva Motor Show used hand-crafted copper panels in the wings and doors, and other panels were made of carbon fiber. The windows and roof were made of an acrylic-based material, as an alternative to glass.
Peugeot revealed no data on the engine that will be used in the new concept car. The Onyx was equipped with a hybrid powertrain with a 600hp 3.7 V8 HDI combined with a sequential six-speed gearbox.
Betting on China
The new prototype is Peugeot's most recent bet for the Chinese market. The French brand aims to continue its growth in the largest automobile market in the world in order to counter-balance with the struggling European market.
Furthermore, PSA, Peugeot 's parent company, is attracting interest from Chinese company Dongfeng who is willing to buy and take a majority stake in the French company. This deal would allow removing the financial pressure on the French group.
