Despite using the same 275hp turbocharged 2.0-liter of the RenaultSport Megane 275 TrophyRenault Megane Renaultspo...France, 2014 > present, the Trophy-R is almost 100kg lighter than the base car, apart from providing a number of improvements in terms of the chassis.
It was the test driver of RenaultSport Technologies that faced the Nürburgring circuit to try to beat the previous record. The fastest lap achieved by Laurent Hurgon with the Mégane Renaultsport 275 Trophy-R was of 7 minutes and 54.3 seconds. The new record achieved on May 15 beat the best time of the Seat Leon Cupra 280Seat Leon Cupra 280Spain, 2014 > present set on March, 7 minutes and 58.4 seconds.
The Mégane Renaultsport 275 Trophy-R is based on Renault's Cup chassis. The car has adjustable Öhlins Road & Track shock absorbers and composite Allevard suspension springs in the front. The dampers have 20 possible adjustment positions on the front and 30 on the back and can be changed thanks to a button placed on the bottom of the instrument panel. The vehicle height can be changed by adjusting the compression of the springs.
A major contribution for the new record was achieved thanks to weight reduction of the Trophy-R. RenaultSport engineers removed much of the insulation and sound absorption material, a total of 18kg. 20kg more were cut thanks to the removal of the rear seat. By taking out the air conditioning and radio and with the introduction of a minimal center console, RenaultSport spared further 10kg. The Recaro seats, constructed in polycarbonate and upholstered in leather and Alcantara, allowed to save 22kg more. Finally, the Akrapovič titanium exhaust with carbon fiber trim, and the removed windshield wipers spared more 5kg.
The Mégane Renaultsport 275 Trophy-R is equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, a first in front wheel drive cars, mounted on 19-inch wheels Speedline Turini. The vehicle is also available with a performance braking kit with larger disks. Other options include a lithium ion battery, which reduces the weight by 16kg and also a "Nürburgring Pack" which adds further equipment.
The Mégane Renaultsport 275 Trophy-R will debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on June 27 and will be driven by Laurent Hurgon.
