Renault launches Kwid for emerging markets

has just announced the launch of a new A-segment model called KwidRenault KwidFrance, 2015 > present. The new hatchback of the French brand was developed to emerging markets and has already confirmed that it will not reach European markets. The first country to receive the new Renault Kwid will be India in the second half of 2015.

The new Renault hatchback is based on the 2014 KWIDRenault Kwid ConceptFrance, 2014 > 2014 concept. The brand describes it as an eminently modern vehicle and with unprecedented features for the segment in which it stands.

Alliance, the Kwid will allow a significant reduction in costs for both brands. The vehicle has a design with SUV inspiration that includes plastic body clading in the lower parts of the body, a front bumper with a more aggressive image and a ground clearance of 180mm.

Although dimensions are yet to be revealed, Renault states that the interior of the Kwid offers the best boot and cabin space on the Indian market in A-segment. The Kwid also gets an interior digital intrument panel and a 7in central infotainment screen.

The full range of engines that Renault will launch with Kwid hasn't been revealed yet. However the French brand has announced that the model will be equipped with a new 0.8-liter petrol engine. The powertrain has been specially developed thinking in lower fuel consumption and will be offered with a manual five-speed gearbox.

Besides India the new Renault Kwid may ultimately reach other emerging markets in the future such as Russia, Brazil and China. Bringing it to Europe is not in the company's plans.
