Rolls Royce has revealed a new edition of the Ghost at the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show called the Ghost Extended Wheelbase. The model remains virtually identical to the standard Ghost, but now offers extra space and comfort.
170mm has been added to the cars wheelbase which has allowed interior space and legroom to be increased and knee-room to be doubled, without sacrificing any of the standard Ghosts balance. Ease of entry and exit has been improved as well, while the extra sunroof length and rear cabin space afforded by the increased wheelbase allows higher levels of interior light.
The Extended Wheelbase will be powered by the regular Ghosts 6.6 litre twin turbocharged V12 which produces 563hp and 780Nm of torque at 1,500rpm. This allows 0-100km/h acceleration in just five seconds.
Rolls Royce CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös said of the new model: “This latest Rolls-Royce is a model of outstanding design and unrivalled luxury. Ghost Extended Wheelbase delivers all the poise and dynamism enjoyed by discerning Ghost owners, with the indulgent experience of an extended wheelbase car. It is the very best of both worlds. This is the first time we have undertaken a world launch of a Rolls-Royce car in China, underscoring the strategic significance of this market and the Asia Pacific region. We expect to build on last year’s record growth, with further strong demand for Rolls-Royce models and a positive economic forecast throughout the region.”
Full production of the Ghost Extended Wheelbase will begin in 2012 until which time limited numbers are available to be built to order. Chinese pricing is to start from 5.118 million RMB.
Also expect Rolls Royce to announce further expansion throughout the Asia Pacific region later in the year, after doubling first quarter sales of cars worldwide this year.
