Michael Schumacher hasn’t yet given up on trying to win an eighth title and the German driver is convinced that he can still win another F1 crown. Although he had a tough season in 2010 Schumacher thinks he still has it.
Last year Mercedes GP and Ross Brawn brought the German back to F1 after an absence of three years, but not back into the winners’ circle as he would expect. He took some time to recover his speed and had some issues with Bridgestone's tyre characteristics.
Still Schumacher went on to improve his performance towards the end of the season and with MercedesGP confident to improve on last season, the German will be entering 2011 with high hopes of returning to the top.
Questioned about what might happen over the next two years of his contract, in an exclusive interview with this month's F1 Racing, Schumacher doesn’t have any doubts.
Asked if he expects to win his eighth title in 2011 the answer was clear: “Absolutely. Look, we have a three-year project. Very clearly right now, we are not where we want to be. We've put a lot of effort into coming back and are optimistic we have a chance.”
Schumacher added that it is very difficult and rare to make a comeback to Formula 1 and directly to the top.
"So I'm sure we can fight for wins this year and we might be able to fight for the championship. I hope so. I'm here on a mission and I want to succeed. I want to perform and I'm going to put 100 per cent into it. And if that's not the case in 2011, then we will have to do it in the final year."
The W02, MercedesGP’s challenger for the 2011 FIA Formula One World Championship will be presented on February 1st, the first day of testing in Valencia, Spain.
