Subaru came to the New York Motor Show to unveil the new generation of the Impreza. The brand unveiled the four-door saloon and five-door hatchback variants, but only the hatchback version will come to Europe.
The new Impreza was developed around a new structure called Global Platform. This new chassis will underpin several future models, including the new WRX STi which is set to become a four-wheel-drive performance hybrid. Subaru says that the new platform “significantly enhances safety, ride comfort and agility”.
Both variants of the new Impreza are larger than the previous generation, with the wheelbase extended by 25mm. Length has increased by 41mm and width by 38mm. Subaru gave the model a sportier look and better aerodynamics also thanks to a 10mm decrease in height.
Although Subaru hasn't revealed exact specifications of the engine line-up, the new Impreza will include four-cylinder, horizontally opposed engines with all-wheel drive system. Engine technology improvements include cylinder deactivation.
