hopes to more than double its sales in Brazil by 2016, and to do so it is going to create more vehicles aimed specifically at the Brazilian market. The newest of these vehicles is the Extrem concept that Nissan will show at the Sao Paulo Motor Show on October 24.

Nissan calls the Extrem an "urban rally concept." It is a 2+2 compact SUV that blends certain stylistic elements from the GT-RGT-R Gen.2Nissan GT-R Gen.2Japan, 2009 > present25 versions

, including its turbocharged engine. The car's look came from a team of designers from the US and Brazil. Nissan says that a production version of the Extrem will go on sale in 2014 and be built at its new factory in Resende, Brazil.

"EXTREM, with a dynamic, high-character design, is far from conservative. It was created to appeal to the country's growing band of city-based young professionals who are passionate about design and want to make a personal statement. The lightweight two-door 2+2, has a dynamic stance, fresh surfacing, and a clear rugged ability to tackle the urban jungle everyday," said Nissan Chief Creative Officer Shiro Nakamura.

Nissan designed the Extrem to look like nothing else on the road in Brazil. The Americans on the design team were sent to live in Brazil for several weeks to get a better idea of the car's surroundings and to inspire the design. The initial clay models were all made in Brazil.

The Extrem has a nearly flat roof that is supported by a very thick C-pillar. The car has a high ground clearance to deal with being off-road or on rough roads. The car was built to look strong and agile with thick fenders and sharp creases. It was also meant to be practical with roof rails that have cleats for carrying more. The platform comes from the Nissan MarchNissan March Gen.3Japan, 2003 > present

Power comes from the 1.6-liter DIG-T engine from the Juke.
