Veyron gets Super Sport version

Bugatti has presented a new version of its successful model Veyron. The new Super Sport Veyron is the result of customer requests for the brand to create a Veyron with a sportier and enhanced driving experience.

The engineers at Bugatti came up with a car with a power output of 1,200-hp (882 kW) and maximum torque of 1500 Nm. The Veyron Super Sport has a limited top speed of 415 km/h in order to protect its tyres. The first five Super Sport’s to be built will make part of a special series which will have the same configuration as the landspeed record car.

As a further development of the 1,001-hp Bugatti Veyron 16.4, launched in 2005, the Super Sport features a twin clutch gearbox with seven speeds, a precise driving performance in bends and excellent stability when braking and accelerating.

Engineers have made some modifications in the classic Veyron having in mind the creation of a more powerful car for an agile ride. Changes include larger turbochargers and bigger intercoolers which have been responsible for boosting the power of the 6-cylinder engine. The chassis has also suffered modifications in order to maintain safety at extreme speed. Changes include a slightly raised main-spring travel, stronger stabilisers, and new shock absorbers with a complex architecture originally developed for racing cars.

The Super Sport is easily recognizable thanks to its flat and elongated silhouette. At the front the new Veyron gets expanded and reshaped air intakes, with the lower one extending elegantly around the sides to the wheel arch. At the back the Veyron gets a sportier look thanks to the double diffuser and a centrally positioned exhaust system.

With the first Veyron Super Sport set to start production this autumn at Molsheim along with the Veyron and the Grand Sport, the first public appearance will be at the Pebble Beach Concours weekend in mid-August and featuring at The Quail, Monterey Historic Races at Laguna Seca and on the concept lawn of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
