Volkswagen's Up has been awarded the Advanced Award by Euro NCAP for its City Emergency Braking system. The car had already gotten a five-star score in the Euro NCAP crash test. That gives the Up the highest safety rating by Euro NCAP of any car in its class.
The City Emergency Braking system uses a laser sensor integrated into the windshield that scans 10 meters in front of the car. If it detects the possibility of a collision it is able to automatically stop the Up as long as it is traveling at less than 30km/h. The system is a €590 option on the Up in Germany.
VW will offer a four-door Up in May in Germany for €10,325.
