World premiere of the R-Class in New York

New York has officially seen the launch of the new-generation of the Mercedes-Benz R-Class. The versatile vehicle has undergone significant changes, which include a completely redesigned front section, inspired in the Mercedes-Benz saloons and SUV models.

The new R-Class generation will be available in 9 standard versions, five of them long wheelbased. Adding to the modern petrol variants adopted from the preceding model, the range has been built up by optimized diesel engines.

The R 300 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY features a consumption of 7.6 l/100 km, which represents 7 percent less fuel consumption comparing with its predecessor. It offers a better performance with the same amount of power output.

The new R 350 CDI 4MATIC is a combination of the low fuel consumption of a V6 engine with the high performance of a V8 variant, consuming 8.5 l/100 km, less 0.8 than its predecessor. This V6 diesel engine boasts 195 kW (265 hp) and a maximum torque of 620 Newton metres. This will be the sportiest of all the R-Class with diesel engine , accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds, reaching a top speed of 235 km/h.

Mercedes-Benz will be offering one of the cleanest diesel models in the world with the R 350 BlueTEC 4MATIC. This V6 engine has a power output of 155 kW (211 hp) and maximum torque of 540 Nm. It is equipped with highly-effective AdBlue© emission control which enables it to meet the emission values planned for 2014 according to the EU6 standard.

Developing the R-Class looks designers focused on a completely revised front section. They managed to emphasize the width of the car using the horizontally structured bonnet. The vehicle's wings, radiator grille and surround, headlamps and bumpers with chrome underguard have also received a new appearance.
