The Japanese carmaker Subaru is the automotive division of the Japanese Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI) group. Chikuhei Nakajima founded the former FHI company – under the name Aircraft Research Laboratory – in 1917. After the World War II, the company reorganized as Fugi Sangyo; then, in 1953, five of the companies held by that group merged into a new corporation – Fuji Heavy Industries, officially set up in July 1953. The new company’s creation was headed by Kenji Kita and the headquarters was placed in Ota, Gunma, Japan.

Today, Subaru is selling its vehicles worldwide and is particularly known for its use of the boxer-engine, all-wheel-drive and turbocharged variants.
