Hamilton just nine points away from title renewal

Mercedes' British driver took a commanding victory in Austin ahead of Ferrari duo

Lewis Hamilton took another huge step towards renewing his world title by winning this weekend's United States Grand Prix in Austin. The Brit is just nine points away from grabbing his fourth Formula One world championship.

However things didn't start very well for the Mercedes driver as he lost the lead to Vettel at the start. He quickly recovered it and commanded until the chequered flag conquering his ninth win of the season and fifth, out of six possible, at the Circuit of Americas.

Sebastian Vettel, the early leader of the championship finished second 10.1 seconds behind Hamilton. With just 75 points left to conquer this season, the Ferrari driver is now 66 points behind the Brit, so the German needs to win all the races until the end of 2017 and hope Hamilton doesn't grab more than 9 points in order to still dream of conquering the drivers' world crown.

Although Verstappen was the third to cross the finishing line, he got a five-second penalty for his last lap overtaking on Kimi Raikkonen. The Dutch driver from Red Bull fell to fourth place, handing a podium finish to the Finn.

With Valteri Bottas help, finishing fifth, Mercedes clinched the constructors' world title for the fourth year in-a-row.

Force India's Esteban Ocon managed to hold on to sixth place despite Carlos Sainz Jr challenge. Running his first grand prix with Renault, the Spaniard scored points on his debut with the team. Sergio Perez was eighth, Felipe Massa and Daniil Kvyat completed the top 10.
