Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkleman went to designer Filippo Perini and asked him to create something special for the brand to show at the Geneva Motor Show. The problem was that it was already January 14, and the Geneva Motor Show started on March 6. That gave Perini just 1 month and 21 days to design and build a car that turned out to be one of the stars of the show.
Perini went home probably had an espresso and a shot of limoncello to steel his nerves and designed the Aventador J over the course of a weekend.
The Aventador J kept the hood, fenders and headlights from the stock Aventador; every other piece and panel had to be made from scratch. The car was sold for €1.75 million before the public had even seen it.
"Mr Winkelmann knows our best customers personally. One of the first ones we presented the project to was interested. In a minute he had sent the money," said Perini.
The car came together in time and made it to the stage at Geneva. It is one of the most wild production cars to come from anywhere in years, and it is nice to know that there is an infinitesimal chance of seeing it on the road in Italy.
