BMW has reached another milestone with one of its model. This time it’s the BMW 1 Series that has reached the first million units. The anniversary model of the model was handed over at the Leipzig Motor Show.
With five years of production and four body variants, the one million units already built is a confirmation of the success of the BMW 1 Series in the international car market. The model is also one of the driving forces that make BMW the world’s leading manufacturer of premium cars.
To celebrate the milestone, the anniversary model was delivered to its proud owner at the Leipzig Motor Show, the Auto Mobil International (AMI). The three-door BMW 118d built at BMW Plant Leipzig, was handed by Frank-Peter Arndt, Member of the Board of BMW AG for Production, and Stanislaw Tillich, the Prime Minister of the Free State of Saxony, to a customer from Leipzig.
Available as a three-door Sedan, a five-door Sedan, a Coupé and Convertible, the BMW 1 Series offers a combination of sporting driving pleasure and fuel efficiency, and stands out from its competitors as the only car in the compact segment with rear-wheel drive.
One of the big features of the BMW 1 Series lineup is the reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. In fact it has played a significant role in giving BMW EfficientDynamics a broad impact in the market. The popularity of the model helped to consistently reduce both BMW’s fleet consumption and average CO2 emissions. Currently five versions in the BMW 1 Series have average CO2 emissions of less than 120 grams per kilometer.
The ultra-modern Leipzig Plant is responsible for the production of the BMW 1 Series in Germany. Known for its maximum efficiency, flexibility, and quality this plant is very important in the present and future plans of the German premium car maker. Besides the production of both the BMW 1 Series and the BMW X1, the Leipzig plant is being prepare to built an all-electric production model that is being developed by the Group.
