Boost in sales for BMW M in 2010

In 2010 BMW M increased its sales by 14.2 percent to a total of 15,967. In a year where its portfolio suffered several changes, BMW M had a significant growth.

The worldwide growth in demand for high-performance sports cars, M Sport packages, exclusive special options from BMW Individual as well as driving experience training courses contributed to this positive development.

BMW M is also expecting that sales will continue to grow with the extension of the M Sport package and BMW Individual product range as well as the launch of the BMW 1 Series M Coupé. With this new model, BMW M will be starting in a new vehicle segment.

The development of special task and security vehicles based on current BMW production models will also make part of the future of the company.

By increasing sales by 14.2 percent, the same growth percentage as the BMW Group as a whole, BMW M shows that customers are increasingly searching for high-performance sports cars.

Although BMW M stopped the production of the BMW M5 and BMW M6 models, they have been compensated by the orders of the BMW M3 and the newly introduced all-wheel-drive models BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M. The BMW M3 continued in 2010 to be the biggest ambassador of the M family. Last year the M3 Coupé sold 5,729 units worldwide, while the M3 Convertible and M3 Saloon sold 2,544 and 1,843 units respectively. The BMW X5 M sold 2,778 units, while 3,082 BMW X6 M were delivered.

In 2010 the USA continued to be the most important single market for BMW M, with sales rising more than 6 percent to 6,821. Home market Germany was the number two market with 1,716 cars, followed by Britain and Northern Ireland with 1,264 units. In China BMW registered a major sales growth. In the biggest automotive market in the world 1,088 units were sold, a growth of 355 percent. Brazil and Russia had big sale growths as well rising 237 percent and 104 percent respectively.
