Renault Sport unveiled in Monaco the fastest vehicle of its 40 years of history. The
Clio RS16 is a concept with 275hp and was entitled to a special demonstration at high-speed to the circuit of the Grand Prix of Monaco with the Formula 1 Renault driver Kevin Magnussen behind the wheel.
With this concept Renault Sport aims to demonstrate and confirm its reputation of being able to create more hot-versions based on the Clio. The vehicle combines the compact and lightweight body of the Clio RS and the 2.0-liter turbo engine with 275hp and 360Nm of torque as well as the manual gearbox of the
Mégane RS 275 Trophy-R. The RS16 also receives special RS equipment, including some of its competition optionals. Renault hopes that in the future this vehicle can follow the successful footsteps of the
R5 Turbo and the
Clio V6.
The name of this concept is linked to the
RS16 that marks the return of Renault to Formula 1 as an official team. The French brand built two RS16 units. One will be used for official presentations and the other will be used in tests to be carried out by the development team of Renault Sport.
Although it still hasn't received official green light it is very likely that a very limited and exclusive series of the Clio RS16 may be produced. Its production should take place at the Alpine factory in Dieppe with an approximate duration of four to six months. The RS16 production should start this summer.
