Final version of Renault Twizy shown in Paris

At this year’s Paris Motor Show Renault has unveiled the definitive version of Twizy, a model that represents the new “Drive the Change” signature and is one of the bets from the French brand for the further electrification of the automotive world.

Set to be relleased on the second half of 2011 the Twizy will be the third model of the Renault Z.E. electric vehicle family and stands out thanks to its uncommon look, in what is a practical offer for the urban traffic. The innovative concept, strong character and ultra-compact footprint, are the weapons that Twizy will have to show when conquering the hearts of urban drivers.

Although it has small dimensions Twizy delivers acceleration in urban and suburban traffic, which is comparable with the one from a scooter. In the Twizy the driver and passenger are seated one behind the other, offering protective bodywork and also reassuring road holding and braking ability of a four-wheeled vehicle.

As an all-electric vehicle, Twizy doesn’t produce any emissions while driving it. The engine powering the Twizy produces an output of 15kW (20hp) and develops 57Nm of torque. Besides, it also delivers all the advantages associated with electric mobility, including a silent ride, smooth acceleration and the immediate availability of maximum torque.

For the 2010 Paris Motor Show, Renault Design conceived graphic designs for the liveries of the vehicles shown at the Renault stand in order to show the range of customization that Twizy will be able to offer.

Twizy will have two available versions: one with a top speed of 75 km/h that will require a driver’s license, and Twizy 45 a 45 km/h version that can be driven without a license (depending on country). This last version should go on sale in Europe from the end of 2011 at affordable prices similar to those of a three-wheeled scooter.

The 2.32 metres of length, 1.19 metres of width and 1.46 metres vehicle has an unique design that combines real character with a modern design that boasts sweeping lines, open bodywork, gull wing doors and a full windscreen which extends over the top of the car to form a large glazed area.

The 7kWh lithium-ion battery that powers Twizy is located underneath the front seat and offers the all-electric car a range of 100km (combined cycle). Charging the battery is easy thanks to an extendable spiral cable stored beneath a flap at the front of the vehicle. Thanks to an integrated charger, this cable is also compatible with roadside battery charging facilities. An adapter permits this cable to be plugged into any 220V 10A household electrical supply. The battery fully charges in three-and-a-half hours.
