We discussed the new car that Ford would reveal at the New Dehli Auto Expo a few weeks ago, and now Ford has unveiled it dubbed the EcoSport. It is a compact SUV powered by the new 1.0 liter Ecoboost engine. Ford plans to sell the new small car in South American and Southeast Asia first focusing on Brazil and India. Ford has not said whether the vehicle will ever come to Europe or the US. The EcoSport was designed in Brazil and will be built there and in India.
The EcoSport looks like a pumped up version of the current Fiesta or a smaller new generation of the Ford Kuga. In fact it uses the Ford B Platform that underpins the Fiesta. The first generation of the Ecosport has been on sale in Latin America since 2003.
The new EcoSport has a gaping front mouth with LED-accented headlights and large fog lights. The rear window wraps around to the sides to increase rear visibility.
The EcoSport will use Ford's new three-cylinder, 1.0 liter Ecoboost engine and a five-speed manual transmission. The engine will produce 120PS, 170Nm of torque and 140g/km of CO2.
The EcoSport will be available in India and Brazil in 2012 and slowly roll out to over 100 markets in those regions.
