Taxi with an option for a bi-fuel version with gasoline, compressed natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas tanks. The Transit Connect was first introduced as a taxi in 2011, but Ford is updating it for 2014 with new engine options and a redesigned interior.
“The new Transit Connect Taxi has been designed with the for-hire transportation driver and their passengers in mind, creating a product that combines stylish looks and improved comfort,” said Gerald Koss, fleet marketing manager at Ford.
The taxi is powered by a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with a six-speed automatic transmission, and Ford will offer the option to convert it to being fuel by CNG or LPG from the factory.
It features the redesigned floor that lowers the Transit Connect for better headroom and easier access to the interior. It can also be modified to be wheelchair-accessible, if the owner chooses to order it that way. There is an interior hood release to make it easier for drivers to check fluid levels before they start a shift.
Other new options include a rearview camera, 6.5in touchscreen navigation display, Sync voice recognition and MyFord Touch infotainment.
The taxi seats five and has 60.5 cubic feet of cargo space. If ordered as a CNG or LPG model, the tank is stored in the rear cargo area and decreases the cargo area.
