in order to save money.
“The old Fiesta platform will need remodeling. By shortening it and using thinner-gauge steels where possible, we should be able to make it much lighter," said Andrew Fraser, Ford of Europe's head of petrol engine development.
To fit with Ford's One Ford product philosophy, the Ka will be offered worldwide. However, it will weight less and be more fuel-efficient. The styling will fit current Ford products.
“One Ford gives us a chance to draw on what’s going on around the world – and for our next city car we won’t be reinventing the wheel," said a Ford engineer working on the project.
Ford's 1.0 EcoBoost will almost certainly be in the car, but the naturally aspirated version of the 1.0-liter three-cylinder will likely also be offered. There will also be a diesel option.
Ford plans to reveal the new Ka at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2014.
