SUVs that could be on sale within the next year and a half.

The goal for the next generation X6 is to further differentiate the truck from its X5 sibling. Both cars will share the same monocoque. However, the X6 will be more aggressive and individual, and the X5 will be more practical. Both cars will grow in length and width to improve interior room. Despite the growth, weight should decrease or stay roughly the same because the monocoque will be lighter than the current chassis.

The other major upgrade coming to the next X5 and X6 is what BMW calls the 'FlexRay' system. It will allow the ECU to be upgraded easily over the life of the car to upgrade the chassis and multimedia technology.

The engine range will use BMW's new modular, 3.0-liter six-cylinder as both a petrol and diesel version. The eight-speed automatic will be carried over from the current generation.

The X6 has been a sales success in China, Russia and North America.
