by moving the next generation S-Class slightly up market. It is the first time that the car has ever been developed from the start as a long-wheelbase version. The regular, short-wheelbase version was derived from the long-wheelbase version. It did this to maximize sales in Asia. Mercedes says that while most buyers drive their own S-Class in North America and Europe, in Asia they are mostly chauffeur-driven.

The new S-Class will offer climate-controlled and massaging seats. There will be five rear seat options from a standard bench to a power-tilting executive seat. The backrest includes 14 separate air cushions, six massage programs and warming and cooling functions. Buyers can also opt for heated armrests and door panels. There will be over 100 electric motors in the interior to control various functions.

For rear passenger safety, the seat belt inflates during a crash and each rear seat has its own airbag to keep passengers from sliding under the belt if the seat is reclined.

In addition to many luxury features, the new S-Class will also be a technological tour-de-force. The center console includes two, high-resolution color displays side by side with a total length of 30.7cm (12.1in). The left display shows instrument information for the driver, and the right display is for infotainment and navigation. The standard Frontbass system embeds woofers in the bodyshell to resonate the chassis members and improve sound.

Mercedes will surely have even more crazy luxury features to reveal about the S-Class when it goes on sale later this year.
