will share on engine development in the near future at least for road cars.

Engine development has grown too expensive for Renault and Nissan to continue to operate their own independent motorsport units for road cars. Their respective motorsport arms will work together to develop future powertrains.

"The costs involved in powertrain development are enormous, for example, yet we have to acknowledge that the sales volumes involved in Renault Sport and Nismo are relatively modest. Because of that I'd say there is some scope for shared powertrains in the future. There's no point in each division developing its own 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine separately, for example." said Tom Lane, Nissan head of product planning.
