modified for firefighting. The prototype was developed by Renault Tech, the subsidiary that creates vehicle conversions for Renault, and is meant as a first response vehicle. Renault Tech thinks that it would be especially useful during special events like parades, holidays or New Year's Eve.

In theory, the modified Twizy would respond to the scene to provide basic triage in advance of a full ambulance. In practice, even a standard Twizy has just 17hp and a top speed of 50mph (80km/h). When loaded down, its performance will be less than optimal.

Renault tech added two fire extinguishers, two oxygen tanks, a fire suit, a helmet and a first aid kit. All of these things are stored in a trunk where the rear seat would usually be on a Twizy.

The fire brigade will begin testing the vehicle in November for eight months.

“This initial prototype is real-life proof of the research and development work carried out together with the emergency services, demonstrating Renault’s ability and determination to innovate to meet the needs of firefighters," Claire Petit Boulanger, safety officer at Renault.
