The CMF platform is made from five modular platforms that can we swapped to create various models – engine bay, cockpit, front underbody, rear underbody and electrical architecture. Renault and Nissan will be able to create their own modules that can we swapped among each other to create new models.

Renault-Nissan sees these emerging markets as wide open to grabbing new buyers. In Russia, less than 300 people out of every 1,000 own cars, while the average is 500 per 1,000 in Western Europe.

“We are breaking new ground with CMF-A to meet and exceed the high standards of consumers in the world’s fastest growing economies – particularly people buying a new car for the first time. “These influential consumers don’t want a decontented car originally intended for consumers in mature markets. They want and deserve a car that is modern, robust and stylish – at a price point that represents a ‘cost breakthrough’ for such a generous vehicle,” said Renault-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn.
