is partnering with telecommunications company Orange to bring 4G/LTE to its cars. The rollout will start with a research project between the companies with the intention of having 4G in cars in a few years.

Orange has rolled out 4G at Renault’s research and test facilities, and Renault will install the technology in its cars to test in real-life situations. The first step will be in several Renault ZoesZoe Gen.1Renault Zoe Gen.1France, 2011 > present12 versions

that will be on display at Renault’s stand at the Le Web’13 conference.

“This partnership is an example of an effective working relationship between two very different worlds. We were able to benefit ahead of time from a high-speed LTE network and from Orange’s expertise, with an opportunity to take advantage of the network for our prototype of the connected vehicle of the future,” said Remi Bastien, Head of Engineering Innovation at Renault.

Renault thinks that it can use the technology to develop car-to-car communication that would let cars know about the environment around them.
