at the factory.
It believes that building the car in Turkey will increase sales because it will be able to develop the car to European tastes better.
"Our success is down to the fact that we develop and manufacture cars in Europe that Europeans want to drive," said Allan Rushforth, Hyundai Motor Europe's COO.
The expansion will hire 750 new workers and 1,500 new workers from suppliers. Hyundai already expanded the factory to 120,000 unit capacity when it began building the i20 there.
Hyundai sold 73,000 i10s in Europe last year. The brand holds a 2.9% market share in Europe now, and it wants to increase the share to 3.5% by 2013.
