crossover for a $499 a month lease and unlimited free hydrogen refueling as long as the buyer owns the vehicle. Sales will begin in spring 2014 in Southern California.
Hyundai promises that the fuel cell Tucson will have a range up to 300 miles and can be fully refueled in 10 minutes.
The first cars will be sold for a 36-month lease with $2,999 down payment. In addition to the free refueling, if the cars need any servicing, the dealer will pick it up from owners, provide a loaner and return their car when the service is finished.
“Hydrogen-powered fuel cell electric vehicles represent the next generation of zero-emission vehicle technology, so we’re thrilled to be a leader in offering the mass-produced, federally certified Tucson Fuel Cell to retail customers,” said John Krafcik, president and chief executive officer of Hyundai Motor America.
At the moment Southern California is the only portion of the US with any hydrogen refueling infrastructure to speak of, and it has begun a hotbed for their development.
The cars will be built in Ulsan, Korea on the same assembly line as the standard Tucson and production will begin in February 2014.
