Lamborghini unveils Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante in LA

Lamborghini has prepared a new version of its Gallardo model to be presented at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show. The new Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante sets new benchmark on the open-top super sports car segment. Thanks to the use of CFRP technology the Gallardo Spyder Performante is even more agile and even more dynamic.

As part of its strategy to increase the use of carbon fibre on its vehicles Lamborghini engineers have managed to reduce the weight of the Spyder Performante by 65 kg. The super sports car has a dry weight of 1.485 kilograms, which represents a new best for that highly exclusive market segment.

Just like it happened with the Gallardo LP 570-4 Superleggera, the Spyder Performante saw its weight reduced, in large part, thanks to the use of exterior and interior components made from carbon-fiber. The use of this technology is perfectly suited to super sports cars as it combines the weight reduction with technical characteristics improvement. While performance is optimized thanks to the lower weight, CO2 emissions are still reduced.

The Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante is powered by a 5.2 litre V10 engine with a 570 hp power output, available at 8,000 rpm, and torque of 540 Nm (398,3 ft lbs) at 6,500 rpm, which enables the super sports car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and to reach a top speed of 324 km/h.

In terms of design the Gallardo Spyder Performante can be seen as the open-top version of the acclaimed Gallardo Superleggera. Its bodyshell is focused on the pure lines and clean look without any superfluous decoration. It measures 4.39 meters long, 1.90 meters wide and only 1.18 meters of height which also gives it the ability to handle the very highest speeds with open or closed top.

Still the Spyder Performante suffered some exterior modifications in order to increase the aerodynamic effect in comparison to the Gallardo Spyder. Thanks to the work in the wind tunnels the front bumper on the Spyder Performante has been remodeled by designers at the Lamborghini’s Centro Stile. It now has three-dimensional, deeply recessed elements form trapezoidal frames for the large air intakes. A razor-sharp look is given to the front end by the V-shaped, sharply defined nose, the LED daytime running lights and the black elements.

To achieve better aerodynamic results the Gallardo Spyder Performante syffered modifications to the fully-covered underbody and received new sill elements and a redesigned diffuser incorporating four large tailpipes.
