. The brand will also be showing the chassis from the next generation MX-5.

Mazda's sports car continues to be one of its most important model and a true symbol of the brand. After 25 years, the MX-5 has sold more than 940 million units worldwide and continues to hold the Guinness World Record for best selling two-seater sports car.

"Over the 25 years since its launch, we have had to continually reinvent the MX-5 far beyond simple evolution to stay true to that original ideal. The history of the MX-5 is one of changing everything to stay the same: A history of innovating in order to preserve," said Mazda Motor Corporation Chairman of the Board Takashi Yamanouchi.

Based on the existing retractable hard top model, the MX-5 Miata 25th Anniversary Edition is the culmination of 25 years and will only be available in metallic red Soul. The vehicle will be available with a manual six-speed gearbox or an automatic transmission.

Mazda gave special attention to details, including the roof, pillars and door mirrors painted in black, white leather upholstery, doors with a hand-finished decorative panel and Bilstein shock absorbers.

New chassis

In New York Mazda will also reveal the newly developed SKYACTIV chassis that will be used in the next generation MX-5. The engine and chassis will be displayed together and this will be the first time, with SKYACTIV Technology being used in a front mid-ship engine, rear-wheel drive layout. Although the next MX-5 will have a more compact configuration, the engine will be more central and lowered center of gravity. Mazda is also aiming to reduce overall weight by more than 100kg relative to the current model while at the same time enhancing rigidity and crashworthiness.
