Mercedes-Benz will debut an all-new A-Class Concept model at the upcoming 2011 Shanghai Auto Show to usher in the future of compact class Mercedes vehicles.
Described by Mercedes as a ‘car that might have come from another planet’, the new A-Class features a long bonnet and low silhouette inspired by the F800 concept. A ‘starry sky motif’ is also evident on the exterior, with the radiator grille consisting of metallic silver dots on black stems to give the logo the appearance of being surrounded by stars. The lighting points of the full-LED high-performance headlamps continue this theme. Mercedes also say that the lines of the exterior have been taken inspiration from ‘the wind and the waves, as well as aviation engineering.’
The A-Class Concept will be a front-wheel drive vehicle powered by a four-cylinder petrol engine from the new M270 series. The 2.0 litre BlueEFFICIENCY engine will output 155 kW (210 hp) and is paired with Mercedes-Benz’ new seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission.
Other standout features of the A-Class Concept are a radar-based collision warning system with adaptive Brake Assist, a ‘reverse thrust control’ shift lever and a fully integrated smartphone.
The A-Class Concept will be available for public viewing at the Shanghai Auto Show from April 21 to April 28.
