van, and when it goes on sale in September, it will be the first van in its class to meet Euro VI emissions and have average fuel consumption of 44.4 mpg UK.

The exterior of the Sprinter has been updated to look like the modern Mercedes range. That means a more vertical grill with three slats. The hood is higher and the wheel arches are more prominent. The new Sprinter is meant to be more useful than previous generations with a lower chassis and lower load floor.

Inside, there is new upholstery and seat options, a thicker steering wheel and chrome trim on the air vents. There is also an optional multifunction steering wheel. The stereo comes standard with Bluetooth, and there is optional navigation.

The new Sprinter will also introduce five new assistance systems to the lineup including crosswind assist, collision prevention assist, blind spot assist, high beam assist and lane keeping assist.

All of the engines, which offer power between 95hp and 190hp between four- and six cylinders, meet Euro VI emissions standards. That means lower nitrogen oxide, hydrocarbons and particulate emissions. All of the engine options are diesels with the exception of a supercharged 1.8-liter four cylinder with 156hp that is fueled by natural gas. The Sprinter uses either a six-speed manual or seven-speed automatic depending on options and specification.

Maintenance intervals are important in vehicles like the Sprinter that meant to cover high miles and have constant use. Mercedes lengthened the service interval for the new Sprinter to 37,000 miles.

Mercedes will begin taking orders in June and deliveries will start in September.
