They lower emissions to 49g/km of CO2 and 69g/km of CO2 respectively.

at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The cars are not in production yet, but are meant to show the future of hybrid power.

Peugeot says that 208 HYbrid FE has a goal of combining the CO2 emissions of a 1.0-liter car with the acceleration of a hot hatch. It uses a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine with 67hp and the electrical system with 40hp adapted from Peugeot’s 908 HYbrid4908 HYPeugeot 908 HYFrance, 2008 > present4 photos
Le Mans racer. It uses just 2.1l/100km of fuel and emits 49g/km of CO2 and takes 8.0 seconds to reach 100km/h.

“The challenge of this project consisted of combining engine optimizations and optimizing the flow of energy between the internal combustion engine and the electric motor. All of the solutions can potentially be carried over to production,” said Project Manager Julien Lidsky.

The 208 HYbrid FE also gets improved aerodynamics, a 20% weight reduction and 10% increase in fuel economy. This is done through a new grill design with 40% less drag. It wears low rolling resistance Michelin tires on 19in wheels with carbon fiber flaps between each spoke. Side mirrors have been replaced by rear-facing camera. A new rear spoiler also improves aero.

The HYbrid FE uses the same platform as the standard car, but composite panels from various types of plastic and carbon fiber replace the bodywork and floor. Even the windows have been replaced with polycarbonate. Portions of the suspension are also composite including the springs, lower wishbones and roll bars.

The interior is identical to the production car, other than the air conditioning being removed.

The 2008 HYbrid Air is the second implementation of Peugeot’s compressed air hybrid system that it developed with Bosch that it previously showed in a 208. It uses 2.9l/100km and emits 69g/km of CO2. The system recharges the compressed air system during deceleration and braking and uses it when driving away from a stop.
