Nico Rosberg returned to the wins on Sunday in Formula 1 taking the fifth race victory of the season. The German
Mercedes dominated the race from start to finish and increased the gap to Hamilton in the championship standings to 24 points. In the first ever grand prix to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, Sebastian Vettel and Sergio Perez completed the podium alongside Rosberg.
Sebastian Vettel scored his second consecutive runner-up finish in Baku, but this time his
Ferrari was unable to challenge the Mercedes pace. Sergio Pérez featured once again on the podium, his second in three races, with another good performance from team
Force India. The Mexican managed to overtake Kimi Raikkonen on the last lap, but either way this place would always be his as the Finn was given a five-second penalty for crossing the line at the pit lane entrance.
Hamilton made a good recovery up to fifth place, having started from 10th after the accident in qualifying. The British driver couldn't do better due to electrical problems in his Mercedes. Despite successive attempts the restrictions of radio contact with the technical team only allowed the Brit to solve his car's problems near the end of the race which made it impossible to climb up more in the standings.
Valtteri Bottas had a lonely race and finished in sixth place ahead of Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen
Red Bulls. Both drivers managed to overtake Nico Hulkenberg in the final laps to take seventh and eighth places respectively. The Red Bull drivers took advantage of the fact that they were riding on new tires after a two-stop strategy to overcome the German who only made one stop.
Felipe Massa managed to score for the seventh time this season by finishing in tenth place.
