Lewis Hamilton made a recovery from 10th to second place, clearly benefitting from a very crashy start in Sochi. The Brit had to cool down his attempt to overtake his team-mate as he had mid-race water-pressure scare which forced him slow down the pace. Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen took the final spot on the podium.

It was very problematic start with several clashes between drivers. Vettel made a good start and made an immediate move on Daniel Ricciardo on the inside of Turn 2. Then Kvyat hit his rear and the German hit the Aussie, who in turn hit Perez and punctured his right-rear tyre. But it wasn't over as the Russian would hit Vettel once again on Turn 3, this time sending the Ferrari driver into the wall. The German was raged as for the second race in-a-row he was put out by the Red BullRed BullRed BullAustria, 2004 > present12 models

driver.

Kvyat and Ricciardo would both pit for a new front wing, but the Russian would also receive a 10 second stop and go for the two crashes with Vettel.

The safety car had to be called into action as there were a lot of debris on the track, as beside Vettel's collisions there were also another incident between Nico Hulkenberg and Esteban Gutierrez, with the Sauber driver hiting the German's Force IndiaForce IndiaForce IndiaIndia, 2007 > present8 models

At the restart Hamilton started immediatly on attack mode and got the best of Felipe Massa and into Turn 4 he had already overtaken Kimi Raikkonen who had a poor exit out of the corner as he was chasing Valteri Bottas. The Finn from WilliamsWilliamsWilliamsUnited Kingdom, 1977 > present37 models

was still able to stay ahead of the world champion after both drivers pit, but he wouldn't be able to hold on to second place for long, as just two laps later Hamilton would go through and start the chase on his team-mate, a chase that had to be calmed down because of a warning of water pressure problem. Hamilton would finish the race 25 seconds behind his team-mate.

Valtteri Bottas lost his podium finish on the final laps to Kimi Raikkonen who had a one-stop strategy. Felipe Massa had a lonely race and finished in fifth position. Behind him Fernando Alonso took his first points since last July's Hungarian Grand Prix. The Spaniard benefitted from Toro RossoToro RossoToro RossoItaly, 2006 > present10 models
