Renault May Build Nissan and Daimler Cars If Union Agrees

Would solve company's overcapacity problem

to build their models in its factories. But that is only if Renault's labor union agrees. 

To make the deal work, the union would have to agree to a a 35-hour work week, 6.5% longer working day. 

"This would contribute toward making French factories more attractive for the allocation of volumes in addition to Renault's own output," said Renault in a statement announcing the plan.

If the deal goes through, it could be enough to keep some of Renault's factories open. 

Despite having a 14-year partnership, Renault and Nissan have been slow to integrate factories. While they develop product together, it is still built separately at brand specific factories.
