What a letdown. First, Toyota says that it will not display the production version of the FT-86 until the Tokyo Motor Show, now Subaru shows off the BRZ as little more than a wire frame. The BRZ and FT-86 have been in development in tandem from Toyota and Subaru with Subaru working on the engine and Toyota doing the chassis.
The BRZ Prologue concept does not add much more to the information that we already know about the two cars. However, Subaru did reveal that the car will use the D-4S direct injection system that will also be used on the new Lexus GS. The technology has one fuel injector in the combustion chamber and the other in the intake port to combine direct and indirect injection. It also allows for higher fuel injection pressure.
The 2.0 liter FA boxer engine was designed by Subaru specifically for the BRZ and FT-86. The engine is situated as low and as far back as possible to maximize handling.d text.
