Maudslay Motor Company was established by W. H. Maudslay, in Coventry, West Midlands, England, in 1901. The Company decided to embark in automobile production and employed Alexander Craig to make a car design. By 1904 several Maudslay models were available and the car had become one of the most expensive in the U.K. WWI forced the Company to cease car manufacturing, which was briefly resumed in 1923 with a sports car that was exhibited at the London Motor Show. Civil car building was again interrupted during WWII. In 1941 the company moved to new premises in Alcester, Warwickshire, England, the new plant becoming known as Castle Maudslay. In 1948, Maudslay was taken over by AEC (Associated Equipment Company)which soon thereafter changed its name to Associated Commercial Vehicles (ACV) Ltd. Maudslay’s name was dropped in 1950.
