Melkus Sports Car Company GmbH was founded by Heinz Melkus (race pilot) in Dresden, East Germany, in 1959 to build sport and racing cars. Only one road car model, the supercar Melkus RS100 was built, from 1969 to 1979 and the company ceased production of racing cars in 1986. Melkus entered in Formula Junior, Formula E and Formula III. In 2006 the supercar Melkus RS100 was revived by Melkus Engineering, a company owned by Peter and Sepp Melkus, respectively son and grandson of Heinz Melkus.
